Mobile TV inspection at the elevated reservoir
Job
The power plant group consists of two dams that impound the Pfreimd, the Rabenleite elevated reservoir, two pumped storage power plants and a run-of-river power plant at the Trausnitz dam with a total electrical output of around 40 megawatts. The reservoir and power plants are connected by three pressure tunnels. By official order, among other things, the drainage pipes at the Rabenleite reservoir have to be inspected every year. Access to the individual lines is via an approx. 300 metre long inspection tunnel beneath the reservoir, with DN 125 pipes along the entire length, some of which are approx. 138 metres long. Hammerer Kanalservice GmbH from Wackersdorf has been inspecting the pipes for years.
Challenge
However, due to the challenging accessibility in the application area, it is difficult to achieve the required lengths without mobile inspection equipment.
Solution
"Our mobile inspection systems are designed to provide professional documentation of the pipe condition even in areas that are difficult to access, with precise length measurement over long distances," says IBAK employee Christian Podday, who travelled to the Upper Palatinate for a test run.
Result
The trial operation lasted one working day. With 472 metres inspected, the previous inspection distances were exceeded. IBAK was thus able to demonstrate that the mobile systems are also able to cope with major challenges outside the inspection of wastewater pipes.
