Inspection and pipe run measurement in a baroque environment

Operations in a particular environment: hard to access and with unknown pipe runs.

Since the exact run of the sewer was unknown or uncertain, a pipe run measurement of the wastewater facilities was required as a basis for traffic and open space planning.

Systems and technologies involved

Challenge

The listed buildings have a closed front with inner courtyards to the rear. It was not possible to drive the inspection van into the inner courtyards to access the sewer system.

Solution

The inspection was carried out with a transportable compact push-rod camera system. In conjunction with the 3D GeoSense software module and the ORION L pan and rotate camera which is equipped with a 3D sensor, it was possible to perform a 3D pipe run measurement.

Result

The 3D-GeoSense pipe run measurement provided the x,y,z coordinates of the pipes so that structural specifications such as pulled joints or bent pipes were registered realistically. The 3-dimensionally recorded sewer run and condition were subsequently imported into the sewer database software in XML format by the engineering office and evaluated. The results now serve the engineering office as a basis for the calculation of any necessary investments and the planning of the structural implementation with optimal use of resources.

Company introduction
